Changing the face of American Theater

PARTY PEOPLE
Written by UNIVERSES (Steven Sapp, Mildred Ruiz-Sapp, William Ruiz a.k.a Ninja)
* additional writing by Gamal A. Chasten

Directed by Liesl Tommy

Four decades ago, they were young activists struggling to survive in spite of a Nation divided by war and civil rights, today, not much has changed. The Black Panthers and The Young Lords, survived the dismantling of their movements, infiltration, imprisonment, death, betrayal, fought police brutality and provided meals/medical care to impoverished communities. In this meticulously researched work of fiction, the Bronx-based UNIVERSES looks at the story/legacy of these American revolutionaries through a 21st century lens, identifying Individual and National change. Prepare for a high-energy, infectious mix of Theatre, Poetry, Jazz, Blues, Hip-Hop, Boleros, and Salsa. Performed in ensemble with OSF actors. (Strong language, violence)

* UNIVERSES has been commissioned by the Oregon Shakespeare Festival (OSF)
to create a new work for its American Revolutions: the United States History Cycle.
(“These deeply gifted artists bring new perspectives and artistic styles to the Cycle
and continue to deepen this portrait of our nation" -- Alison Carey, OSF)
